Are you staying in Santiago during the Winter break?
Although we all live in Santiago, most of us do not know about the fun things that you can do in this city. Today, I am taking about the things that you can do here.
One of the things that you can do in Santiago is visiting Cerro San Cristóbal, which is a hill located in the middle of the city. In this hill you can get on a cable car and enjoy the amazing views of Santiago!
Also, you can go to Barrio Lastarria, where there a lot of coffee shops and restaurants. Near Barrio Lastarria is located Santa Lucía Hill, which is a beautiful park where you can enjoy beautiful gardens.
If you love art I recommend going to Bellas Artes Museum, which is a museum located in the center of Santiago. During July, there is an exhibition of paintings from Japan. If you love architecture you definitely have to go to Plaza de Armas , where the cathredal of Santiago is. The cathredal is amazing and it is a shame that most of chileans have never visited it!
If you want to feel like a real tourist and enjoy all the historical places in Santiago, there is the turistik, which is a hop on and hop off bus where in one day you can tour most of the important places of Santiago. This bus starts in Parque Arauco and you can go to Bellavista, Plaza de Armas, Plaza la Constitución, Santa Lucía Hill, and many other places!
The last thing I recommend doing in Santiago is going to Sky Costanera, which is the tallest building in Latin America where you can have amazing views!
So if you are staying in Santiago during vacations you definitely have to tour the city, because it is important for us to know our own city! Hope you like this post!

Hi Cata! I enjoyed a lot your post because the truth is that I don't know too much Santiago. I would like to go to Sky Costanera because I have seen photos and the view seems to be truly amazing. I also think that going to Cerro San Cristóbal is a very good activity for taking advantage of the clean air of Santiago usually after rainy days, for trying to clean our lungs of smog. Well I hope to do some of this activities, thank you for the tips and enjoy your vacations!
ReplyDeleteOh Cata! I have lived here in Santiago all my life and I haven't been to any of this places. Can you belive that?
ReplyDeleteI will actually go and visit all this places but right after winter break because I'm not staying here in Santiago. I need to get away of all this stress and fast life that we live in. I need to be somewhere chill and where I can actually rest because this semester has been really stressfull to me and I've been waiting since the last day of summer to go back to the beach.
I hope you all have great vacations!!
Everything you talked about is really interesting, and with the right company it can be a really nice experience. By far my favourite place in Santiago is Barrio Lastarria, which migh be in a tie with Banderas but getting to know different places of the town you´ve lived your entire life is a really nice thing to do.
ReplyDeleteHello Cata, I have never noticed there were so many places to visit in Santiago. You can also add to the list parque Bicentenario wich I think is very beautifull and atractive with all the animals and the lagoon it has. I am really looking foward to visit some of the places you mentioned before the winter vacations are gone.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that great piece of advice! I really like some of the neighborhoods you described there. My favorite one there is Lastarria for its many restaurants with delicious options for lunch. Have you tried pizzas at Pez Toro? Or maybe the daily menu at La Junta? Yummy! When you’re done with lunch, you can grab a good waffle wrap as desert at Buffalo Waffle. If you want the best ice cream in the city, you can try it at Emporio de La Rosa. So good!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to add the many other sporty options you have while in Santiago. There are many hiking trails around. There’s two that I know, and they are super fun! Aguas de Ramón in La Reina and Manquehuito hill in Vitacura.
Have fun and enjoy the break!
Hi Cata! Thanks a lot for your post! It is really unbelievable how many of the places you mentioned are visited mainly by turists and we don't know the at all. I don't have a lot of time at this point of the year, but after doing the PSU I will visit all of them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you there are fun things to do in Santiago. Personally I went to Lastarria to eat something delicious from a bakery there and later went to a near by cinema that’s called cine arte Alameda to see the ‘Island of lost dogs’ a beatiful stop motion movie. What i like about this cinema and ‘El biógrafo’, a cinema in Lastarria, is that they play movies that normally don’t get played in cinemas as well as reliving old movies.
ReplyDeleteCata! I have just read your post and I wish I have read it before, I stayed in Santiago all the winter break and I didn’t noticed all the fun things you can do here. I have already visited Barrio Lastarria and Cerro San Cristobal, and I have a great time, but I really want to visit the rest of the places you named specially Sky Costanera
ReplyDeleteSantiago though we all live in here, we just know a little area of the metropolitan region. It is very interesting going to places that we never have been. In my case is Cerro San Cristóbal and Paseo Bandera. I wish someday I can go to these places and know something more about Santiago!
ReplyDeleteHi Cata
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post!, I really enjoy it, since I did not know that there were so many places entertained in Santiago.
Personally I have never visit the cable car of Cerro San Cristobal, it must be very impressive to see all Santiago, inside this car with this amazing views of our city.
Now I'm going to have to go, thanks for the tip!
Wow Cata ! thanks for the great advice, I believe that we have a great city full of places we don`t know ! we should become some kind of tourists in our own city and get to know it more, before even thinking of going abroad.
ReplyDeleteHey cata! What an awesome post you have published! I think that a lot of chileans didn't even know about this kind of funny "activities" to do here in santiago including me. I really want to visit any of this places because is very important to us to apreciate our own country and to know more about it so when tourists come here to santiago and asks us what to do we can tell them about interesting things to do and places to visit. That would make their visit more nice and the visitors are going to have a good impression of our country and city.
ReplyDeleteNow talking as a citizen, i think that santiago is a bit dangerous because of the delinquency so that could be a cons to visit us, but we need to fight against delinquency to stop it, taking drastic measures if it's needed. Then, any person in the world could visit us without suffering any inconvenient.
